Messing around with Paul Fujita’s, from the Zeitgeist Gallery, method of image transfers and combining them with stencils. Sid was done up on the computer as well as the background then applied to canvas. It was then smeared up and the stencil text was applied. Text was meant to be a bit haphazard Jamie Reid style so a little under spray was a goal. Currently working on a multi panel image that will be about 30 x 40.

As a side note Sid did really say “You can’t arrest me I’m a rock n’ roll star.” He was then promptly arrested.

I like what you've done...Transers are fun
But I think it would look more punk if you hit up Sid as a Stencil....on a real british flag...fresh type..!

Yeah a Sid stencil would have been cool but it's all about learning and trying something new while mixing it in with other elements.

Misako - It's just acrylic gloss varnish you should be able to get it any craft store and yes the image was printed out on a laser printer.
Here's Pauls how to:

Nice work.

That's a great link too, I just gave the tutorial a go and I got some exciting grungy first time results :-)

(I transfered a photo of Des Lynam to a piece of wood - I would imagine that only the English will understand the significance of Des)

Awesome, and thanks for that link. I'll definitely try this out. Sounds easier and safer than using all the crazy ass chemicals you usually do transfers with.
Q: what does the white "background" of his face consist of? Did you paint that before doing the transfer, or is that the acrylic medium, or is it part of the transfer in some way that i don't get?

O.W.E - The white area on the original won't transfer so the white on the canvas is just the canvas showing through. The gray in the background was gray on the original image. If the background was pink the white sections would come out pink - I think - haven't tried that yet...
